The
Suscipe
The
original wording of The Suscipe can be found in
Catherine McAuley and the Tradition of Mercy, by Mary C. Sullivan, RSM. Mary
includes the Limmerick Manuscript in this book. It contains the original wording
(pg. 188)
My
God, I am thine for all eternity; teach
me to cast my whole self into
the arms of Thy Providence with
the most lively unlimited confidence in
Thy compassionate, tender pity.
"Grant,
O most Merciful Redeemer, that
whatever Thou dost ordain or permit may
always be acceptable to me;
take
from my heart all painful anxiety,
suffer
nothing to afflict me, but sin;
nothing
to delight me, but the hope of coming
to
the possession of Thee, my God, in Thy own
everlasting Kingdom. Amen."

The
wording that is used in at least one of the musical renditions is:
My
God I am yours for time and eternity.
Teach
me to cast myself entirely
Into
the arms of your loving providence
With
the most lively, unlimited confidence
In
your compassionate, tender pity.
Grant,
O most merciful Redeemer,
That
whatever you ordain or permit
May
be acceptable to me.
Take
from my heart all painful anxiety,
Suffer
nothing to sadden me but sin,
Nothing
to delight me but the hope of coming
To
the possession of you, my God and my All,
In
your everlasting kingdom. Amen
